POCHARAM PROJECT:

PochaaramDam

Pocharam Project is an existing Medium Irrigation Project constructed across Alair stream near Pocharam (V), Nagireddypet (M) in Kamareddy District.The Project is located at a distance of 20 km from Medak.The Project work was Constructed in the year 1922 at a cost of Rs 27.11 Lakhs. TheGovernment have accorded administrative approval for an amount of Rs.1430.00 Lakhs for modernisation of the canal system of the Pocharam Project. Under Rajiv Palle Bata programme administrative approval was accorded for Rs.73.00 Lakhs for modernisation of distributaries.

Scope:

The scheme is intended to irrigate an ayacut of 10,500 Acres benefitting 42 number of villages.

NIZAMSAGAR PROJECT:

NizamsagarDam

Nizamsagar Project was constructed by the Nizam during 1923-31 to provide irrigation to 2.75 lakh acres in Nizambad District. Improvements to Nizamsagar project are aimed at restoring the lost capacity of the reservoir due to silting, by raising the height of the gates by 1.5 metersand strengthening the gravity dam.The modernisation of Nizamsagar Project system was taken up during 1970 and the full reservoir level (FRL) of Nizamsagar has been raised from 426.87 to 428.24 meters which resulted in, increase in the storage capacity of the reservoir from 11.8 to 17.8 thousand million cubic feet (TMC).Singitham and Kalyanivagu diversions to supplement Nizamsagar main canal have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 985 lakhs as suggested by the Technical Expert Committee to minimize the gap ayacut, with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) loan assistance.

Scope :

The project evisages provision of Irrigation facilities to an area of about 2.31 lakh acres in 15 mandals.

Jaksani Naganna Bavi, Lingampet:

Lingampet village was established by Raja Venkata Narasimha Reddy and Queen Lingayamma, after whom it is named. Fort walls, lakes and many wells were constructed during their reign for the protection and development of the village. Pannapet (pappanapet?) Samasthanam was extended and developed during the reign of Raja Venkata Narasimha Reddy. Construction of Jaksani Naganna Bavi (stepwell) in Lingampet village was also carried out during his reign.

Rani Shankaramma was a legendary ruler of Pappanapet Samasthanam. Building a strong and large army, she protected the people in the Nizam’s territory and fought against the Maharashtrians who tortured and collected tax from them. The Nizam granted the title of Rayanbhag to Rani Shankaramma for safeguarding and protecting the people and kingdom. Rani Shankaramma can be likened to Rani Rudramadevi, yet another fearless and powerful queen of the Kakatiya dynasty. She also constructed many huge lakes and canals for agricultural development.

Koulas Fort:

The village of Kowlas is a historical place, situated in Jukkal Mandal of Kamareddy District. According to local tradition, Kowlas was originally called, ‘Kailas’, as five Sivalingas were established by the Kakatiya rulers in five corners. The Kowlas, Bodhan and Nizamabad kingdoms together were called Indur in ancient times. Kowlas Fort was constructed at the present site by Rashtrakutas during 9th Century CE. The Fort was captured by Chalukyas of Kalyani dynasty in the third quarter of 10th Century CE. The mud fort was later captured by Kakatiyas of Warangal and it was part of Kakatiya kingdom till 1323 CE. After the advent of the Muslims the fort was successively under the control of Bahamanis, Qutb Shahis, Naikwaries, Mughals, Maratas and finally Asaf Jahis.
