It is a reservoir which is constructed across the Manjira River. The Manjira river is a tributary of the Godavari, and flows between the villages Achampet and Banjapalle of the Kamareddy district in Telangana, India. Drinking water from this reservoir is the main source of water to meet the drinking needs of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Nizam Sagar is the oldest dam in the state of Telangana.
This place is located at about 145 km north-west of the state capital Hyderabad and 81 km from Nizamabad District. The Nizamsagar dam was built in 1923 by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the then ruler of the royal Hyderabad. People from 40 villages we made to relocate for the construction of this dam. The place makes itself in to the list of world’s biggest places to visit. Legends like Mahatma Gandhi and Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru visited this place in 1940s. There are excellent lodging and boarding facilities nearby the dam to facilitate tourists. The Nizam Sagar Project is the 2nd irrigation scheme on the Manjira River. In 1956, after reorganization of States, the Manjira basin was distributed among the three states Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

By Air
At present, there is no functional airport in Kamareddy . The closest airport is the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, at a distance of 168km.
By Train
You can reach Kamareddy from Secundrabad(SC) or Kacheguda(KCG) by travelling in a train. Secundrabad to Kamareddy train takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes.
By Road
Nizam Sagar Dam is located at a distance of nearly 85 kms from Nizamabad town and 145 Kms from Hyderabad and is accessible by road.
